Finance Director – Charity Sector

Location: London
Salary: £55,000–£65,000
Contract: Permanent

The Organisation

I’m partnering with a well‑established UK charity undergoing an important period of development and modernisation. They deliver meaningful, measurable impact within their community and are looking for a Finance Director who can strengthen financial leadership and drive long‑term, mission‑led sustainability.

This is an opportunity to play a central role in an organisation that genuinely changes lives.

The Role

As Finance Director, you will lead the charity’s financial strategy and ensure strong financial management across the organisation. You’ll act as the main point of contact for all financial matters, supporting the CEO and Board with clear insight, robust reporting, and sound strategic judgement.

This position suits someone who enjoys both the hands‑on elements of charity finance and the broader strategic oversight expected of a senior leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead long‑term financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Oversee monthly management accounts and year‑end processes.
  • Ensure compliance with charity SORP, governance standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • (Regulatory and governance responsibilities are key drivers of FD expectations in the sector.)
  • Strengthen internal controls, risk management, and financial systems.
  • Provide financial insight to the Board of Trustees and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Manage cashflow, reserves, and financial policies to maintain organisational resilience.
  • Partner with fundraising, operations, and programme teams to support income growth and effective cost management.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team.

About You

You’ll thrive in this role if you’re a collaborative finance leader who believes in the power of purpose‑driven work.

You will bring:

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA).
  • Senior-level finance experience, ideally within the charity or wider not‑for‑profit sector.
  • A solid understanding of charity regulations, SORP, and financial governance.
  • The ability to communicate complex finance clearly and confidently.
  • Experience in improving processes and driving financial efficiency.
  • A values‑led mindset, with a genuine interest in social impact.

Why This Role?

  • Join an organisation with a powerful mission and strong future ambitions.
  • Help shape strategy and long‑term financial sustainability.
  • Work closely with a committed CEO and engaged Board.
  • Hybrid working and a supportive, purpose‑driven culture.

How to Apply

If you're an experienced finance leader keen to bring your expertise to a charity making a real difference, I’d love to hear from you.
Please send your CV or drop me a message to discuss the role in more detail.
