Interim Head of Development Management

A Local Authority I am working with in the East Midlands is looking for someone to manage a small-to-medium DM service. 

They are looking for a well rounded consultant who has alot a of experiance leading teams, creating change and dealing with councilors and SLT memebers. 

As Interim Head of Development Management, you will provide strong professional leadership across the full range of Development Management functions, ensuring consistent, high‑performing and customer‑focused service delivery. 

This includes:

• Leading multi‑disciplinary Development Management teams across the three councils, ensuring resilient and effective decision‑making aligned with statutory requirements and local plans. (Aligned with typical HoDM responsibilities such as leading teams, determining planning applications and overseeing service delivery.)
• Providing clear professional advice to Members, senior officers and stakeholders on major applications, appeals, enforcement matters and complex planning issues.
• Overseeing the processing of planning applications, pre‑application services, committee reporting, planning appeals and enforcement actions, upholding quality and policy compliance.
• Driving service improvements, modernisation and best practice, ensuring the service remains efficient, responsive and adaptable.
• Representing the councils at Planning Committees, public inquiries and key external negotiations, including engagement with developers on strategic and high‑profile schemes.
• Supporting delivery of growth and regeneration priorities across a region with substantial coastal, rural and urban planning challenges.of experience dealing with councilors, SLT and has proven management experiance of leading teams.
