The Role

In this key position, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading the council’s Local Plan examination, ensuring it meets national planning standards.
  • Representing the authority at hearings, providing expert evidence and responding to inspector queries.
  • Working closely with senior officers, elected members, and external stakeholders to align planning strategies.
  • Managing technical studies that support policy development and decision-making.
  • Offering strategic guidance to ensure policies reflect sustainability, infrastructure, and housing needs.

About You

We’re looking for someone who: 

✔ Ideally has a degree in Town Planning or a related discipline. 

✔ Ideally is a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or eligible for membership. 

✔ Has experience in Local Plan preparation and examination representation

✔ Is confident, analytical, and able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders. 

✔ Thrives under pressure and can navigate complex policy challenges with clarity.
