Are you an experienced Senior Planning Officer looking for a dynamic role where you can make a tangible impact? If so, this East Anglia-based Local Authority might be the place for you! You will be working on a range of planning applications and helping shape the future of the council.

🔹 Contract: Temporary, initial 6 months 

🔹 Location: Hybrid (1–2 days on-site per week, can negotiate additional flexibility) 

🔹 Pay: £40-45/hour

 

The Role

As Senior Planning Officer, you’ll be responsible for evaluating and processing a variety of planning applications, ensuring high-quality development that aligns with the council's objectives. 

Key responsibilities include: 

✔️ Assessing and determining a range of planning applications, including occasional majors

✔️ Providing pre-application advice to developers and stakeholders and managing complex casework

✔️ Interpreting out-of-date policies in the context of housing land supply shortfalls

✔️ Delivering high-quality planning outcomes across a wide range of development types

✔️ Preparing and presenting detailed committee reports

✔️ Collaborating effectively with stakeholders and internal teams

✔️ Preparing reports, commissioning consultations, and presenting cases at Development Management Committee meetings 

✔️ Representing the Council at planning appeals 

 

What We're Looking For

To excel in this role, you will ideally have: 

✅ A planning degree or RTPI-recognized postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience) 

✅ Strong knowledge of Development Management best practices 

✅ Extensive understanding of planning legislation and its application

✅ Ability to work independently, managing a varied caseload of major planning applications 

✅ Problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisive decisions 

✅ Excellent communication skills for liaising with stakeholders, developers, and council representatives
