Senior M&E Engineer (Water & Gas) – Overview
- An exciting opportunity has arisen with a social housing provider for an experienced Senior M&E Engineer (Water & Gas) to support the delivery of compliance, safety and asset management services across a diverse residential property portfolio.
- Working within the Housing & Property Operations team, you will provide specialist technical expertise across gas, heating, hot water, water hygiene and associated mechanical systems, ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance is maintained at all times.
- This role will play a key part in contractor management, inspection programmes, quality assurance, compliance monitoring and the supervision of inspectors, helping to deliver safe and effective services for residents.
Senior M&E Engineer (Water & Gas) – Key Responsibilities
- Support the management and delivery of statutory gas, heating, hot water and water hygiene compliance activities.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to operational teams, contractors, residents and stakeholders.
- Assist with the supervision and coordination of two inspectors, including workload allocation, quality assurance and performance monitoring.
- Monitor contractor performance and contribute to KPI reporting and service improvement initiatives.
- Undertake and coordinate pre-inspections, post-inspections, quality inspections and technical audits.
- Review specifications, schedules of work, technical drawings, risk assessments and contractor documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Gas Safety Regulations, Building Regulations, CDM 2015, HSG274 and other applicable legislation.
- Identify compliance risks, recurring defects and opportunities for service and value-for-money improvements.
- Support planned maintenance programmes, refurbishment projects and capital investment works.
- Prepare technical reports, compliance records, inspection documentation and management information.
- Maintain accurate compliance records and asset management data.
- Support health and safety, risk management, safeguarding, data protection and organisational policies.
Senior M&E Engineer (Water & Gas) – Applicant Essentials
Essential
- Experience within gas compliance, water compliance, social housing, property services or a similar environment.
- Experience undertaking pre-inspections, post-inspections and quality assurance inspections.
- Strong contractor management and performance monitoring experience.
- Knowledge of measured term contracts, project-based works and payment verification processes.
- Comprehensive understanding of gas and water compliance requirements.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, CDM 2015 and risk management practices.
- Relevant ACS qualifications including CCN1, CENWAT, CPA1 and CKR1.
- Ability to prepare technical reports, compliance documentation and performance information.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience maintaining compliance records and supporting asset management activities.
Desirable
- Water Regulations qualification.
- Legionella awareness training or equivalent experience.
- Commercial ACS qualifications including CIGA1, TPCP1A, CORT1, CODNCO1, COCN1, CDGA1 and ICPN1.
- Legionella Duty Holder training.
- Knowledge of heat metering and HNTAS compliance.
- Basic competence in electrical systems.
- Experience working within a social housing provider environment.
