Senior Accountant

The position is for a senior-level accountant to support the principal accountant with budget management, month-end and year-end processes, and central service functions. The role will focus on central services, social services, regeneration projects, and VAT (including local authority VAT). 

It is an interim opportunity with a hybrid working arrangement—requiring presence in the office a couple of days per week.

Responsibilities

• Support the principal with budget management across designated services
• Oversee month-end and year-end accounting processes
• Manage financial operations for central services and social services
• Contribute to regeneration project accounting
• Handle VAT responsibilities specific to local authorities
• Assist with transition to new ledger systems and improved monthly reporting
• Support the team in smoothing out year-end processes

Requirements

• Proven experience as a senior accountant or similar role within public sector or large organizations
• Strong understanding of budget management and financial reporting cycles (month-end/year-end)
• Experience with VAT accounting, preferably within local authority frameworks
• Familiarity with regeneration projects or social services finance is advantageous
• Ability to adapt to new systems (experience with ledger transitions preferred)
• Excellent work ethic and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to work on-site at least a couple of days per week; hybrid working supported
