Lead Major Applications in Essex – Principal Planner Contract
Contract (Hybrid, Essex)
Location: Essex
Contract: 3 months initially (scope to extend)
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1 office day per week + site visits
A Local Planning Authority in Essex is seeking an experienced Principal Planning Officer to support their Development Management team. This role focuses on managing major and complex applications, providing resilience during a busy period, and delivering high-quality planning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle a varied caseload with emphasis on major applications
- Lead on pre‑apps, S106 negotiations, PPAs, and complex casework
- Prepare and present committee reports
- Attend site visits and occasional evening committee meetings
- Represent the authority at appeals and hearings
What We’re Looking For
- Strong LPA Development Management experience
- Proven track record with major and contentious applications
- Confident negotiator with excellent report‑writing skills
- Committee and appeal experience
- Knowledge of renewable energy developments is an advantage
