Your next role

It’s time for the next step.
You’ve earned it.

Are you a Licensing Officer who thrives on variety and isn’t afraid to get stuck in?

We are supporting a forward‑thinking local authority in recruiting an experienced Licensing Officer to join their dedicated Regulatory Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident, knowledgeable professional who can manage a varied licensing workload and deliver high‑quality services to the community.

About the Role

As a Licensing Officer, you will play a key role in administering, processing, and enforcing a wide range of licences. You’ll be particularly focused on taxi and private hire licensing, alongside responsibilities under the Licensing Act 2003.

This is a hands‑on, public‑facing role that combines office-based processing with in‑person appointments, inspections, and compliance checks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process applications for taxi/private hire licences, premises licences, personal licences, and other regulated activities
  • Conduct in‑person appointments with applicants, drivers, and licence holders
  • Carry out compliance visits, inspections, and enforcement checks
  • Investigate complaints and potential breaches, preparing reports and evidence where required
  • Provide clear, accurate advice to applicants, businesses, and members of the public
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, including police and community safety teams
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all work complies with relevant legislation and council policies

About You

We’re looking for an adaptable, confident Licensing Officer with a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and a proactive approach to enforcement.

You should have:

  • Experience in Taxi's and Private Hire vehicles.
  • Solid working knowledge of the Licensing Act 2003
  • Experience conducting inspections, interviews, or enforcement activity
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to handle challenging situations professionally
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A customer‑focused approach with the ability to explain legislation clearly

A full UK driving licence is desirable due to the nature of the role.

Why Join?

You’ll be part of a supportive team that values professional development, flexible working, and a positive work‑life balance. This is a great opportunity to broaden your licensing expertise and contribute to a safer, well‑regulated community.
