We are supporting a forward‑thinking local authority in recruiting an experienced Licensing Officer to join their dedicated Regulatory Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident, knowledgeable professional who can manage a varied licensing workload and deliver high‑quality services to the community.
About the Role
As a Licensing Officer, you will play a key role in administering, processing, and enforcing a wide range of licences. You’ll be particularly focused on taxi and private hire licensing, alongside responsibilities under the Licensing Act 2003.
This is a hands‑on, public‑facing role that combines office-based processing with in‑person appointments, inspections, and compliance checks.
Key Responsibilities
- Process applications for taxi/private hire licences, premises licences, personal licences, and other regulated activities
- Conduct in‑person appointments with applicants, drivers, and licence holders
- Carry out compliance visits, inspections, and enforcement checks
- Investigate complaints and potential breaches, preparing reports and evidence where required
- Provide clear, accurate advice to applicants, businesses, and members of the public
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, including police and community safety teams
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all work complies with relevant legislation and council policies
About You
We’re looking for an adaptable, confident Licensing Officer with a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and a proactive approach to enforcement.
You should have:
- Experience in Taxi's and Private Hire vehicles.
- Solid working knowledge of the Licensing Act 2003
- Experience conducting inspections, interviews, or enforcement activity
- Strong communication skills and the ability to handle challenging situations professionally
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- A customer‑focused approach with the ability to explain legislation clearly
A full UK driving licence is desirable due to the nature of the role.
