A Local Authority is seeking an experienced Housing & Litigation Lawyer to join its busy and supportive legal services team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a broad and interesting caseload, advising on a range of contentious housing and general litigation matters within the public sector.

You will play a key role in providing legal advice across housing management and litigation matters, working closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to support the Authority’s operational and strategic objectives.

The caseload will include a mix of:

  • Housing possession proceedings
  • Anti-social behaviour and injunction applications
  • Homelessness and housing advisory work
  • Disrepair claims
  • Judicial review and public law matters
  • General civil litigation on behalf of the Authority
  • Enforcement and regulatory matters where required
  • Advocacy at court hearings and tribunals where appropriate

The successful candidate will also advise officers on risk, procedure and legal compliance, ensuring matters are progressed efficiently and pragmatically.

About You

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive
  • Experience handling housing litigation and/or local authority litigation matters
  • Knowledge of housing law, civil procedure and public sector practice
  • Strong advocacy, negotiation and case management skills
  • Confidence working independently while managing competing priorities
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with officers and stakeholders

Previous Local Authority experience would be advantageous, although candidates from private practice with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.

What’s on Offer

  • Fully remote or flexible hybrid working arrangements
  • Broad and varied litigation caseload
  • Supportive and collaborative legal team
  • Opportunity to work within a well-regarded public sector environment
