I am looking for an interim chief accountant for 6 months. The perfect candidate would have extensive closedown experience with the ability to manage a team and have sufficient technical expertise.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate and respond to auditor queries.
- Pull together notes and supporting documentation for accounts close down.
- Work closely with existing team members to keep processes running smoothly.
- Brief senior management and auditors on progress and status.
- Act as authority on close down matters within the team (without direct line management).
- Ensure close down remains top priority across relevant stakeholders.
Essential skills:
- Significant experience in local government accounting, particularly in metropolitan districts.
- Hands-on experience with year-end accounts close down processes.
- Ability to prepare detailed notes for statutory accounts.
- Experience coordinating audit queries and responses.
- Up-to-date knowledge of local government accountancy standards.
- Strong communication skills with gravitas to influence senior managers and teams quickly.
Key focus: The candidate will lead on the year-end accounts close down process. They will be responsible for ensuring all necessary documentation and notes are prepared accurately and timely, coordinating audit responses, and supporting the council's statutory reporting obligations.
