Environmental Protection Officer

A Local Authority in Greater Manchester seeking an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to support their busy Pollution Control team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Health professional with strong technical knowledge across pollution control, planning consultations and contaminated land matters. The successful candidate will join an established team and play a key role in managing a varied caseload, while also providing technical guidance and support to colleagues where required.

• 3 month contract (likely extension)
• 37 hours per week (open to part-time)
• Office based as much as possible

Key responsibilities

• Investigating and resolving a range of Statutory Nuisance complaints.
• Providing expert input on planning application consultations.
• Reviewing and appraising Contaminated Land Preliminary Risk Assessments (PRA) and Site Investigation (SI) Reports.
• Assessing and commenting on BS4142 Noise Assessments.
• Liaising with internal departments, developers and consultants.
• Supporting and mentoring existing team members through knowledge sharing and training where appropriate.

To be considered, you should have demonstrable experience within a UK Local Authority Environmental Protection service, including:

• Statutory Nuisance investigations.
• Planning consultations.
• Contaminated Land report appraisal.
• BS4142 assessments.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Previous experience supporting, mentoring or training colleagues would be highly advantageous.
