What is the Oyster Academy?

Since 2013 Oyster Partnership has delivered its training to new recruits giving them all the skills they need to be a successful recruiter at Oyster Partnership.

In 2016, Managing Director, Sasza Bandiera, redeveloped the recruitment training alongside the senior team to create a comprehensive 12-week course, filled with a mixture of classroom-based learning, theory, role play, and practical training. Over the course of the past 11 Oyster Academies, 88 trainee recruitment consultants have graduated.

The Oyster Academy has given me a solid basis in knowledge and confidence in going into my first recruitment role.

The Oyster Academy

It’s fair to say, the Oyster Academy has become a staple part of Oyster Partnership’s life. Delivered by various members of the team from all different desks, we’ve managed to create a fully interactive, unique recruiter training course for internal candidates. The impact this training has brought to the trainees and the rest of the team has been unprecedented; it’s helped shape our dynamic culture, creating both healthy competition and a supportive learning environment.

It helped me improve my weaknesses and build on what was lacking, while also putting a huge emphasis on my strengths and directing them the right way.

Henry Cavalier, Senior Consultant

The feedback we received has been invaluable, as we grow and adapt the syllabus to meet the growing needs of our trainees in line with our evolving market.

What makes Oyster Academy the best in-house recruitment training programme?

Our course is incomparable to any other training like this on the market because we focus on drawing on the shared expertise of all our staff, bringing our learners the most comprehensive recruiting training course out there. The common misconception is that we focus purely on sales training, but recruitment is so much more than that…

It’s about communication, building relationships, and shaping your personal brand.

We don’t just focus on phone calls and email etiquette, instead, we set you up for a career in recruitment; from copywriting to personal development to setting your career goals.

What will you learn in your recruitment training?

The first week eases you into the role. We want to set you up with the foundations before getting you anywhere near the phones (or PC for that matter). We appreciate that recruits might be coming to us with no knowledge of the industry so we start off by covering the basics: the industry as a whole, the history of Oyster Partnership, KPI’s, ratios, targets, billings, your potential earnings, types of recruitment, the recruitment process and steps you need to take and basic CRM training.

It might sound overwhelming but having this knowledge and thinking about these things from day one will give you the best chance to really succeed in the role from early on.

In addition, we cover:

  • Interviews
  • Client and candidate communication
  • Phone skills
  • Dealing with different personalities
  • Candidate and client generation
  • Headhunting
  • Pitching
  • Personal brand
  • GDPR
  • Compliance
  • Advertising
  • Mindset

The thoroughness and length of the training – really made sure we had everything we needed to get going as soon as possible.

Director of People & Operations

Hannah Clarke

With 15 years of Recruitment experience under her belt, 13 of which have been spent at Oyster, Hannah is (and always will be) an office legend. After reaching a staggering 80-something temps – the stuff of Oyster folklore – Hannah made the monumental decision to step into a whole new role. And thank goodness she did, or we wouldn’t have her as our Head of People, steering our often-chaotic ship, and playing a huge part in Oyster’s staggering growth plans.
