Our Housing Needs Recruitment Specialist Richard Bucklow joined Oyster Partnership in 2014. Recruitment was a field that was new to him and he decided to pursue a career at Oyster as the culture and aspirations of the company fit well for him.
Four years later, with a lot of hard work and determination Richard has had three well-deserved promotions and his most recent to Team Leader, which ensures he is well on the way to where he has his sights set for his career. His next focus is to grow the Housing Options Team and then reach the next milestone promotion ‘Managing Consultant’.

- When did you first join Oyster Partnership?
I joined Oyster Partnership in October 2014. Four years later I am still here and really enjoying my time working at the business!
- What made you choose Oyster Partnership for your future career?
I originally fell into recruitment, but chose Oyster Partnership, as unlike some of the other places I interviewed at I felt there to be a real sense of community and a culture to help each other out. It was just as much about working towards a group goal as it was an individual one, and it was the team mentality that really hooked me in.
- Tell us about your career journey so far?
I had a little bit of a slow start to my career. I moved from perm to temp recruitment and then worked within a number of different geographic areas before I felt settled with the sector I was working within. However, with excellent training, regular 1-2-1s and an incredibly supportive working environment I managed to create successful desks on both Housing Management and Housing Options, getting promoted three times in three years and now managing the Housing Options team in a Team Leader position! I can’t say that it hasn’t been tough at times but it has absolutely been worth it and I’m extremely excited to see what the future holds here at Oyster.
- Do you have any tips for those aspiring to be successful working in recruitment?
Recruitment can be tough. Make sure you pick the right company for the right reasons. Your career is a marathon, not a sprint, so picking a company that will support you and nurture your talents rather than exploiting them is key. Work hard, be proactive and be open to ideas. If I hadn’t of looked down different routes for my success, I would never have moved to the Housing Options desk and be in the position I am now.
- What’s your next goal now you have had this promotion?
To grow the Housing Options Team and to start work towards the next promotion!
