What makes an Employee of the Quarter?


Alex Fernandez, Principal Consultant in Building Surveying & Project Management is in his third year working with us. Since joining the business he has built up an impressive network of clients building out their teams with talent. At the OP office he is seen to be someone who is extremely ambitious and driven; it is no surprise that he walked away with our ‘Employee of the Quarter’ title! Alex happily (as always) answered a few questions below as to what he believes makes you successful within your recruitment career.

  1. How did you feel being named Oyster’s Employee of the Quarter?

Firstly, I was very shocked as I felt there were a lot of people who performed well alongside myself. It was great to feel recognised and that my hard work is appreciated.

  1. What do you feel you have done that has given you the title?

I feel that I have just adopted the ‘Oyster Way’.  I help others and I don’t just think about my own targets and milestones, but also consider the whole team and the success we make together.

  1. How has your Divisional Manager Rob helped you in your recruitment career?

Rob has helped me massively, he is there for me and always free to talk, this could be at 11pm at night or 5am on a Monday morning!  He is also stand-out when it comes to parts of my job I might find more of a challenge (we all have them).  He goes out of his way to make sure the team feels motivated.  We are very similar in terms of helping people to be successful, whether it be colleagues, clients or candidates, we both see the bigger picture.

  1. Do you have a favourite quote that you live by?

 “It’s a tough pill to swallow but we can either run from adversity or we can face our adversity head on and conquer it. And that’s what I plan to do.” 

This was a famous Conor McGregor quote but something that means a lot to me. You can’t give up if things get tough and should always strive to do your best.

  1. How would you define success?

It’s not necessarily about money but about the people that succeed with you along the way.

  1. Lastly, if you could give a reason to ‘Choose OP’ as a career what would it be?  

You are a business within a business. It is rare that you get to work for a company where the MD’s door is always open and the management team are always readily available to listen to any ideas to help you achieve what you set out to do. Choose to be in control of your own destiny!
