The challenge
Leicester City Council needed a defined block of food hygiene and food standards inspections completed to a consistent standard, without pulling its own officers away from the day-to-day demands of a large city service: complaints, enforcement, new registrations and events.
The solution
A scoped Statement of Works for approximately 450 to 500 inspections, covering both food hygiene and food standards interventions.
A dedicated, fully qualified officer. One Environmental Health Officer, meeting FSA competency requirements for both intervention types and with current CPD, assigned to the programme so the service has a single, known point of delivery.
Capacity when it counts. When the service has faced spikes in demand outside the SOW, the Oyster officer has been able to step in and support, giving Leicester flexibility that a fixed-scope contract alone would not.
The results
- Delivery on target throughout the programme to date. Add: X inspections completed against a target of X as at (month).
- Both food hygiene and food standards inspections delivered by a single officer, reducing duplicate visits to businesses.
- Additional capacity provided to the wider service when demand required it.
- Positive feedback from the council on the quality of output.
