What would you say best describes the Environmental Health Team at Oyster?

We are a newer team to the market, but industry disruptors; always looking to be innovative in our processes and work practices, with our main aim to present Environmental Health career opportunities to professionals. We listen to their career objectives and place them in front of clients they would want to work alongside. Our role at Oyster is to ensure business and personal success for those we come into contact with – it is our mission to create as smooth a journey as possible for all we work alongside, from start to finish.

  1. Why has the Environmental Health sector become so important to businesses and authorities?

Environmental Health is an essential and statutory requirement for all local authorities. It is surprising how many people indirectly come into contact with environmental health professionals daily and wouldn’t even realise it! This role has become increasingly important as they cover a wide array of duties such as; ensuring local food outlets operate safely and scoring them correctly for hygiene; to safeguarding the water you drink from the tap. Environmental Health is a key function to protecting public health, reducing strain from other public services such as the NHS.

  1. What does your recruitment role involve and which clients do you work alongside?

Our day can vary greatly from attending meetings with our clients and professionals to networking at Environmental Health related events so we are in-the-know of the latest developments. Most of our day involves speaking on the phone to our contacts to see who is qualified and available for any given project or assignment for our client, as well as seeing what projects our professionals want to work on and keeping them in mind so that they can land the job most desirable. We work alongside most UK Local Authorities and offer recruitment consultancy across the following areas:

  • Private Sector Housing
  • Licensing
  • Environmental Protection
  • Food Safety & Hygiene

We are more than recruitment, the team is built by solid business relationships, based on integrity & trust.

  1. Where in the UK do you work mostly?

My remit is the Midlands however my colleagues cover London and the outer counties to Mid England. We are always ready to help and by covering specific locations helps us to be far more targeted in our searches and networks.

  1. When do you carry out checks to ensure the professionals put forward for Environmental Health roles are of the highest calibre for clients?

Providing qualified and experienced Environmental professionals is at the heart of our business and we take this seriously as it can expose a client to risk if somebody is not qualified to do the job that we are putting them forward for as well as cause adverse publicity.

Every person on our database goes through a thorough process which involves a telephone interview to assess they have the correct qualities and experience required, followed by a full document check which includes eligibility to work in the UK, qualifications check and references and if necessary clearances such as DBS checks, this is to ensure that we minimise the risk for our clients and candidates.
